March is festival month in Marvellous Melbourne, and autumn 2013 kicks off in style with the 21^st Melbourne Food and Wine Festival (1 – 17 March). This year’s theme is Earth, following on from last year’s Fire. Whatever happened to Wind you ask? Well, there’s only so much you can do with air-dried beef.

But how much can you do with earth? Grow stuff for one thing. Which they do in abundance in country Victoria.  For those outside the metropolitan area the Regional Closing Weekend alone offers more than 80 events for the discerning food-lover – and who isn’t one of them?
