The Vulture Nest: Latest Music News

Props to Cherry Bar for knocking back the opportunity to host a Lady Gaga after-party so local band could perform instead. The pop identity booked the intimate venue in ACDC Lane to celebrate the end of her huge Australian tour but was told by the bar they would have to clear the stage by 9pm to make way for two-piece Jackson Firebird. Shocked, Gaga’s people refused and decided to book the Northcote Social Club. Cherry co-owner and booker James Young told the Herald Sun, “we honour our existing bookings to local acts.” After seeing photos of Gaga at the NSC he admits he questioned his decision, but continued, “I’d rather be remembered as the person who wouldn’t budge on an existing booking for a local band.” What a fucking legend.

We would buy anything from James Murphy. You name it, we’d buy it. Drugs? Yep. Snuggies? Absolutely. A stray cat from the streets of Cambodia with aggressive ringworm? You’d better believe it. Luckily for us, the store the LCD Soundsystem front man is planning to open in Brooklyn will sell none of the aforementioned products, but there will be a lot of “stuff.” In an interview with the New York Times, Murphy has revealed his store in Williamsburg, House of Good, will stock everything from cheap Chinese sneakers, whimsical socks (is there a better kind of sock?), coffee, lollies from Denmark and custom luggage designed by the man himself. Just try and keep us away.

Mysterious Girls front man and primary songwriter Christopher Owens early last week posted a surprising string of Tweets announcing he was leaving the Californian duo.

As yet, there has not been any word on whether bassist/producer JR White will keep the band together without him. Watch Girls perform a very special version of ‘Vomit’ off their Father, Son, Holy Ghost record, via Pitchfork.

Sad days.

You know you’ve really made it when (false) rumours of your death nearly break the internet. No, Gotye is not dead. Early last week, the user-generated website CNN iReport proclaimed the singer had shot himself.

“At 4:32 AM EST, it was reported that Gotye had shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun. He was pronounced dead at 4.45AM, and the investigation concluded that the cause of death was suicide…it was confirmed shortly after by family and friends. He was quickly taken to the Central Montmorency Hospital, but died from his injuries shortly after. His family has stated that they plan a closed funeral.”

The Aussie eased the panic on his Twitter, “I’m not dead #Pinkalbumtitles” he wrote. Gags.
