The Shins are about to hit our Shores

July 17, 2012 by Felicity Powell in Artists, Latest News with 0 Comments

Among all the constant reminders about Splendour coming up – which mostly entails being bombarded with random Facebook friends constantly updating anyone who will listen about how “ZOMG IT’S 9 SLEEPS TIL SpLeNdOuR!!12!” – you’d be forgiven for thinking all the fun is about to happen in that magical town called Byron Bay, not in Melbourne or Sydney or any other major city.

But don’t worry, it’s not all bad. Although Australia’s biggest festival may be far away, we’re in the midst of sideshow season, the best season of all!

Arriving on our shores next week is The Shins, bringing with them all new material from their acclaimed fourth album Port Of Morrow, including their latest single “It’s Only Life”.

It’s been a busy start to the year for the Portland based five-piece, with the band touring all around the globe to celebrate the release of Port Of Morrow. The album has been five years in the making, following on from their 2007 LP Wincing The Night Away, and was recorded throughout 2011 with bandleader James Mercer handling all songwriting duties, lead vocals and the majority of instrumentation.

This will be The Shins’ fifth tour to Australia. They’ll be supported by local up-and-comers Husky, who have recently signed to Sub Pop, fellow mega record label of The Shins who release the who’s who of indie music.
