Sun Rising: A Tribute to Sun Studios
If you follow the long and winding road that is the history of rock and roll, you ‘ll inevitably end up at what is generally accepted as its birthplace – the now legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. It was there that Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats recorded ‘Rocket 88’ in 1951, (which is regarded as the first rock and roll song ever recorded) and launched a new genre of music that would endure forever.
Sun Studios, and the music recorded there, established Memphis as the spiritual home of rock and roll, and is credited with launching the careers of music royalty like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash. And now, 60 years on, Melbourne music luminaries David Cosma and Damon Smith are paying tribute to the music of this era and the institution that was Sun Studios with Sun Rising: The Songs That Made Memphis. With the help of their Sun Rising Band, they be paying homage to the music that has influenced so many artists for so many years.
So, Johnny… Be Goode, strap on your Blue Suede Shoes, and Walk the Line to the Toff in Town on Thursday 16th August for a real rock and roll party! Tickets from www.thetoffintown.com or www.moshtix.com.au
