Rodriguez Announces Australian Tour

In the midst of the hype surrounding groundbreaking documentary Searching for Sugarman, Sixto Rodriguez has astutely announced an Australian tour, with surf rock band The Breaks in support. After selling out shows in both Melbourne and Sydney during 2010, the man responsible for gems such as ‘I Wonder’ and ‘Sugar Man’ is back to mesmerize audiences with his brand of endearing folk.

Searching For Sugarman has only recently launched Rodriguez into international spotlight, with his humble yet incredible story earning accolades at both Sundance and Melbourne Film Festivals. The adventure of two South African fans trying to uncover the truth behind his mysterious on-stage “suicide” becomes a heartwarming fairy-tale when they dive deeper into the lyrics behind Rodriguez’s albums.

Performing material from albums Cold Fact and Coming From Reality, Rodriguez will also be joined on-stage by members from Midnight Oil, Violent Femmes, and Hunters Collectors, subsequently creating one of the most experienced and acclaimed musical super groups to ever grace our shores.
Tickets can be purchased here for Rodriguez’s show at The Arts Centre March 22nd.

Wish Rodriguez would alos include Perth in this tour….last saw him live in Johannesburg in the late 1990’s in his first sold out tour. Special nostalgic memories 🙂

Rodrigues was very popular party music when I was growing up in WA. Pleased to see that he is finally enjoying some recognition for his brilliance. Shame it did not come earlier so that he and his fans may have all enjoyed more albums. We would love to see him in Perth.

The Rodriguez fan base in Perth Western Australia is huge and there would definitely be a good response if there was a show announced here.

I was actually flying to see the gig at the East COast Blues Fest in a couple of weeks time but had to cancel due to commitments back here in Perth. I would purchase a ticket immediately if it was announceed that he come to WA. I know many others that would also…
