Phia and Mez Medallion – Poland Tour Diary

April 20, 2012 by Jack in Artists, Featured, New Music with 0 Comments
DIY indie power-couple and Melbourne exports Phia (Sophia Exiner) and Mez Medallion (Joshua Teicher) are bringing their individual blends of pop music from their current home in Berlin to Poland for a national tour. And they’ve very kindly given us unrestricted access to their tour diary! Over the coming weeks, you’ll get a taste of what life is like on tour for these indie-pop wunderkinds.

Well if you think that being two musicians who have together successfully navigated relocating their life half way around the globe and begun building their careers in Europe would lead to said musicians being organised and calm at planning to avoid leaving things up to the last minute – well you’d be wrong.

Packing – too many sequins?

After a frantic last week of four shows between us (including a show in Dresden and Josh’s film clip launch) we of course left the packing to the day before, which was then further derailed by me falling off my bike and having to walk home and then later in the evening inexplicably locking ourselves out of our apartment. So after an hour spent hanging out in the hall waiting for the locksmith to arrive, trying not to tear each other to shreds, packing was commenced at 11pm. So it was with some relief when we boarded the bus the next day that would take us to Poland!

A Polish beer on our arrival

We are picking up a car in Poznan and driving to Wroclaw (polish pronunciation lesson no. 1: “vro-ts-wuv”). This is my second time here this year, having supported Icelandic artist Myrra Ros in February, so it’s exciting returning with a bit of momentum and as a headliner. Last time I was here I was overwhelmed by how friendly the people were here, and so eager to hear new music. It’s a great place to play, and hang out. Our first show is on Friday night so I have another day to practise the Polish song I’m going to cover in my set – a Polish friend wrote out the lyrics phonetically. I am hoping the crowd finds my attempts endearing, not offensive..!
