Mumford and Sons Release New Single ‘I Will Wait’

August 9, 2012 by Jack in Featured, New Music with 0 Comments

British folk rock group Mumford and Sons have just released ‘I Will Wait’, the first single from their highly anticipated new album Babel, which is due for release on September 24.

Musically ‘I Will Wait’ doesn’t stray too far from the formula they had pretty much down pat on Sigh No More, returning to the foot-stompy, banjo-plucky, earnest-voicy, swelly-chorusy modern hillbilly sound that they conquered the world with in 2009. But lyrically, it feels that in the intervening years since Sigh No More, Mumford and Sons have become  a little more positive, a little less vulnerable, and little bit more comfortable about where they fit in the world. In ‘I Will Wait’, Marcus Mumford sings: “So break my step / and relent / You forgave and I won’t forget”, Perhaps this is the happy resolution of whatever he really fucked up in ‘Little Lion Man’? Regardless, it’s a joyous, jig-able track, and it will be interesting to see what else their second album Babel brings.
