Land Bound Madness with YACHT

March 5, 2013 by Iain McKelvey in Latest News, Tours with 0 Comments

Picture a triangle with a face on it, that eats other triangles, for those of you about to get weird, we salute you! YACHT has announced a small run of headline shows in addition to the previously announced Groovin’ The Moo festival.

The eclectic, space bound, LA-via-Portland outfit started back in 2002 as a solo project for Jona Bechtolt, until he cajoled Claire L. Evans in to help expand his already impressive ideas. Instead of the sea craft image conjured by the name, it actually stands for Young Americans Challenging High Technology, and this outfit has been relentlessly sticking to these ideals for the past decade. The current touring formation of YACHT now includes Bobby Birdman and Jeffrey Jerusalem. We last had the pleasure of witnessing YACHT back in 2009 in the killer surrounds of Meredith Music Festival. To date they’ve released an impressive 5 albums, with the last two being on James Murphy’s (aka LCD Soundsystem) DFA Records.

Their music is a unique mixture of urgent post-punk, disco and conceptual art pop. Weird right? Yes but equally just as fun to listen to whilst cutting shapes at some absurd warehouse party.  Fidgety and altered bass lines, frantic beats and wigged out synth make for a mix that is equal parts danceable madness and pop sensibility and with remixes already done for Snoop Dogg, Kings Of Leon and Phoenix we are betting our imaginary dollars that these shows are going to rock, swing, jive and bop their way into our memories.
