Introducing MoneyKat

May 6, 2012 by Charli H in Artists, Latest News with 0 Comments

International Sydney based hip hop trio Moneykat are riding on the critic’s love their of their debut self-titled album released in March this year , getting their swag into gear with an album launch party at Melbourne’s Worker’s Club this Sunday May 6.

Inspired by the Chinese good luck symbol of the golden cat with the waving paw –  familiar in many groceries, markets and restaurants, Moneykat , consisting of  rappers Omar Musa,  Ishu and Mighty Joe signed with Obese records last year and are speedily rising on the up and up. With steady play on Triple J and rave reviews, both Musa and Mighty Joe are achieving success together after each carving a solo career prior to their formation.

Their debut album delivers a buffet of multi-cultural tastes, from reggae, classic soul-samples and minimalist grime tinged bangers teamed with guest vocalists Candice Monique, Mantra and Californian MC Senbei. Speaking on everything from love to materialism to migration, the album familiarises with  the light and shade of everyday life.

Mighty Joe states: “We wanted to represent the idea that our accents, styles and stories might be different, but our struggles are the same”

Single ‘Nothing Is Safe’ showcases supreme production skills, a laid-back dub track with the sexy R&B vocal stylings of Candice Monique, whom along with L-Fresh The Lion and DJ MZ RIZK, will be sharing the stage with Moneykat on Sunday.

Moneykat are working on their sophomore album, due for release as soon as September. In the mean time, watch single ‘Nothing Is Safe’ Feat. Candice Monique here:
