EP Review: Ta-ku & Wafia’s (m)edian

Ta-ku and Wafia’s (m)edian EP has dropped with a splash, reminding all of us that sometimes the soundtrack to the weekend can be diversified, and there’s more to life than bangers. Essentially, (m)edian is an old school duet featuring two of the coolest vocalists in the Australian music scene right now.

The EP opens strong with ‘Treading Water’, establishing the tone and the style for the remaining tracks, that is, back-and-forth ballads with beautifully arranged production and a solid baseline. The arrangement is truly fantastic, particularly in the final track, ‘Love Somebody’, however it’s the vocal abilities of these two singers that shine through. The listener feels as though they’ve been invited into this very intimate love story, resulting in a kind of sonic ménage a trois. If this makes you feel like a third wheel, we might suggest inviting your partner along for a listen.

(m)edian plays for a grand total of just over 11 minutes, which is plenty of time to light some candles, run a bubble bath, and make a baby.
