Dancing in the Lanes: Laneway Festival Announces 2013 Dates

We can’t be the only ones who choose St Jerome’s Laneway Festival as our favourite way to spend a summer’s day. You agree? Listening to indie tunes and basking in the sunlight is your preferred pastime too? Good, we’re off to a great start.

Now we don’t have all the information yet. We’ll be shaking with anticipation until September 26 when the full line-up is announced. But we do have some news we couldn’t wait to share: We have 2013 dates! And we know that Laneway is headed to Singapore and Auckland next year. So hey, if you find yourself spending late January with Australia’s friendly cousins, you don’t have to miss out on what we’ve been assured is a mega dream line-up.

But before we hit you with the dates, we want to get a little bit serious and talk about how, as a fan of Laneway, you could also do your bit for social justice too. In the Kimberly region in Western Australia, the suicide rate 1 in 1200 – much too high when compared to that of other indigenous populations around the country. The Yiriman Project, supported by Laneway and the Dean Turner Project, supports struggling young Aborigines in an attempt to fix that horrid statistic. They help youths suffering from self-harm and substance abuse by reconnecting them with their cultural roots. In the coming months, Laneway will share more information about their involvement and how you can lend a hand.

Laneway are a kind bunch. Now we have a chance to repay them for their brilliant shows. Are you pumped yet?
