Blacklevel Embassy: The New Veterans on the Block

August 17, 2012 by Felicity Powell in Latest News, New Music with 0 Comments

Blacklevel Embassy are back from a long hiatus to announce their new record and a tour with Shellac. The band has also dropped the clip to the title track ‘New Veteran’ which you can check out here:

The band formed in late 2003. Its members having already proved their worth in seminal Australian acts like Ricaine, Hardware, and Warped, they hit the ground running, pumping out songs, albums, and shows until 2009 when they decided to take a break.

This was a well-earned break; the band had played with numerous revered Australian and international bands like My Disco and Mclusky, and toured extensively with The Nation Blue.

In early 2010 though, the ball began to slowly move again when Blacklevel Embassy was asked to perform with Future of the Left at the Corner Hotel. It was new drummer Joel Ellis’s first show, and it was the first performance of the title track ‘New Veteran’.

2010 and 2011 saw the band writing and recording, but make no mistake – this new slowness should not be confused with complacency. It is meticulous calculation, and the preservation of angst that exploded onto their third record, the aptly titled New Veteran

In 2012 Blacklevel Embassy will also perform at the Melbourne International Arts Festival, at the personal request of Shellac.

These dudes may be getting older but the music is definitely not becoming any softer.

New Veteran out 1st October 2012 (Australia/New Zealand), 1st November 2012 (rest of the world)
