5 Tracks You Gotta Hear
Some bands seem to make it into this segment of the website more than others. The excitement oozing from every pore for the release of Bloc Party’s new album means those gentlemen will feature here for the second time in a matter of weeks but we’re not talking about them for the minute. We’re talking about the phenomenal Love Migrate. The Melbourne six-piece have just dropped their new single ‘Making This Hard’ and it is another resounding suggestion that these guys are every bit as amazing as any other young band you can imagine. They’ve got a show coming up in their home city at the Toff in Town, which we strongly suggest you get involved in. Stream the single below and proceed to forget about every trouble in the world.
As we mentioned above, we’re foaming for Bloc Party’s new album. The first single ‘Octopus’ was a throwback to everything we first loved about Kele and the gang and the quasi-title track ‘Day Four’ follows in the same vein. It’s being touted as sounding similar to the epic ‘This Modern Love’ but we’ll let you make up your own mind about that. While the band are throwing up hints that this album may be their last, we’ll just rejoice in the glory of this little ballad.
Is it just us or is there a kind of stigma about calling some one a one-man band? It just seems to bring with it images of some belligerent and confused street performer for some reason. In which case, we will be labelling the ridiculously talented yank Lord Huron as a multi-instrumentalist. The man known to the government as Ben Schneider is set to drop his debut album Lonesome Dreams in early October and sounds like it will be pretty special. ‘Time to Run’ is the first single taken from it and it is wonderful. There’s this glorious sense of adventure that bursts out of this song, that somehow just in the simple act of listening to it you’re going somewhere amazing. You’re not sure where it is, but you know that even the journey itself to this unknown wonder will be something to behold.
Apparently a Francolin is a kind of terrestrial bird of which there are over 40 species. They’re a member of the pheasant family and eat mainly insects and seeds. Very interesting, but how is this related to this article we hear you ask? Because we got distracted when we Googled the name of the fantastic Melbourne five-piece of the same name is how. Francolin make pop tunes that will warm you right to the very core of your soul. The Swedish accented vocals of front man Staffan Guinane add wonderfully to some really well crafted, boyant indie pop. The band has just released their debut album Won’t Let You Down and its more a promise than an album title. You can purchase said album for as little as twelve dollars and we strongly suggest you do so.
If you have heard Crystal Castles before then you know what’s in store next. The duo’s newest single ‘Plague’ is as aptly named as a song has ever been. This song will envelop you. The warped haze of electronica just builds and builds and Alice Glass’ high pitched vocals only ever add to an increasing sense of mind altering paranoia that seems to have become part and parcel with any song by Crystal Castles. Its amazing how these guys can produce music that is so jagged, yet still so approachable. They tread a fine line, but you always seem intrigued by the sound that Glass and band mate Ethan Kath put out.
